What we offer
Three services,
clearly described
Dialcraft works within a defined scope: crystal and bezel work, dial refinishing and hand refitting, and the specialist territory of pocket watches and complicated movements. Each service is described here with its process, what is included, and what it costs.

The approach across all three services
Every job at Dialcraft begins with an in-person assessment. The piece is looked at properly — not photographed and estimated — before any price is given or work is started. This means the quote reflects what the work actually involves for that specific watch, not a general category estimate.
Work progresses station by station, with each stage checked before the next is begun. For longer jobs this keeps errors contained; for shorter ones it confirms the outcome before the piece is released.
Any change to the agreed scope — if something unexpected is found or additional work would improve the outcome — is communicated before it is carried out. Owners are not charged for work they did not agree to.
Assess before quote
Every piece is looked at in person before a price is committed to.
Stage by stage
Each step is completed and checked before the next begins.
No unannounced changes
Any scope adjustment is discussed and agreed before it is started.
Verified at completion
Movement work is regulated and checked before the piece is returned.
Crystal Polishing & Light Refinish
Removal of light scratches from acrylic or mineral crystals and a tidy of the surrounding bezel. A reasonable choice for daily-wear pieces that have picked up surface marks over the years without sustaining anything deeper. The service includes polishing, a clarity check, and reseating of the crystal where it has shifted or loosened in the bezel.
What is included
- Material assessment — acrylic versus mineral identified before any abrasive is selected
- Graduated polishing appropriate to scratch depth and crystal type
- Clarity check under proper lighting before release
- Bezel inspection and tidy as part of the service
- Crystal reseating where required
Process steps
- 1Crystal inspected and material type confirmed
- 2Appropriate abrasive compound selected and applied
- 3Bezel area cleaned and tidied
- 4Final clarity check — reseating carried out if needed
Dial Refinishing & Hand Refitting
Sympathetic refinishing of a tired dial and refitting of hands, carried out to keep the character of the piece intact. For owners whose dial has aged unevenly or whose finish has degraded, but who prefer a measured, honest refresh over a heavy redo. Colour matching to the original is carried out where feasible, and hands are aligned carefully throughout. This is not a cosmetic overhaul — it is a careful restoration of legibility and finish without erasing the piece's history.
What is included
- Original finish type assessed before work begins
- Colour matching to original where materials allow
- Dial refinishing with period-appropriate materials
- Hand removal, cleaning, and careful refitting
- Final alignment check under loupe
Process steps
- 1Dial and hand condition assessed, original finish noted
- 2Hands removed and set aside safely
- 3Dial prepared — old lacquer removed where necessary
- 4Colour matched and new finish applied in stages
- 5Hands cleaned, treated, and refitted with alignment checked
Pocket Watch & Complication Restoration
Specialist work on pocket watches and complicated movements — repeaters, calendar trains, and mechanisms of similar character — carried out station by station with parts hand-fitted as required. For owners of intricate or antique pieces that need unhurried, considered attention rather than a quick turnaround. The service includes a written assessment at intake, staged restoration with checks at each stage, and a final regulation across positions before the piece is returned.
What is included
- Written assessment of the piece at intake
- Movement disassembly and cleaning
- Parts inspection — worn or damaged components noted
- Staged restoration with checks between each phase
- Parts hand-fitted where replacement is needed and agreed
- Final regulation across positions — confirmed with timing equipment
Process steps
- 1Written assessment carried out — condition recorded, scope discussed
- 2Movement disassembled, cleaned, and parts inspected under magnification
- 3Any parts requiring replacement sourced and agreed with owner
- 4Movement reassembled station by station with checks between phases
- 5Regulation carried out across positions — timing equipment used
- 6Piece returned with written record of work carried out

Across all services
Standards that apply to every job
Owner consent before scope changes
Nothing outside the agreed service is carried out. If something unexpected comes up during the work, the job stops and the owner is contacted.
Appropriate materials per crystal type
Acrylic and mineral crystals are treated differently. The wrong compound on the wrong material produces an outcome that fails quickly.
Contact data held only for the job
Details provided at intake are used for that repair only. No marketing lists are kept, and owner data is not shared with third parties.
Original components preserved
Parts are replaced only when function requires it. Original components are not discarded without the owner's knowledge and agreement.
Post-service inspection before release
Surface work is inspected under proper lighting. Movement work is checked with timing equipment. A piece is not released until the workshop is satisfied with the result.
Turnaround times maintained
Published turnarounds reflect current workshop capacity. If a timeline needs to change, owners are informed rather than left to follow up.
